Microsoft Lens (formerly Office Lens) was retired from the app stores, leaving a lot of people without their everyday document scanner. If you mainly used Lens to scan paperwork, extract text, and save PDFs - without paying a monthly subscription - Argus Scan was built for exactly that gap.

What Argus Scan covers

• Scan documents with auto-capture, or import existing photos from your gallery
• On-device OCR - search, copy and share the recognised text; processing happens on your phone, nothing is uploaded
• Export as searchable PDF or save pages as images; multi-page documents with reordering
• Redaction that actually removes data - draw a box over sensitive info (solid bar or pixelate) and it is permanently removed from both the image and the recognised text layer, so it cannot be recovered from the exported PDF
• Clean-up tools - perspective correction for skewed photos, crop with a magnifier, brightness/contrast presets, object eraser
• Annotation - pen, highlighter, text and shapes
• Folders for organising scans, plus a PIN or fingerprint/face locked private folder

How it differs from subscription scanner apps

Argus Scan is free, with no subscription and no forced ads. A few premium extras (like high-resolution export) unlock either by choosing to watch a rewarded ad or with a small one-time purchase. Core scanning, OCR and PDF export are never gated.
